I brought you one of my favorite topics for the weekend, which has become even more important now, in the Black Swan era.
You might not think so, but in our daily lives we make many decisions that affect our future and our happiness. Behind these decisions is a basic attitude: are we internal or external controllers?
In this blog post, I will write about the characteristics of the two attitudes, I will show you how to become an internal controller so that you can live a fuller, happier life.
Internal vs External Controller: What’s the difference?
People with internal control believe that they are in control of their lives and that their decisions determine their destiny. They are independent, take responsibility for their actions, and tend to find solutions to problems rather than blaming circumstances or others.
In contrast, people with external control feel that the development of their lives is primarily influenced by external factors such as luck, chance or the decisions of others. They often strive to meet everyone’s expectations, and because of this they tend to sacrifice their own needs and desires.
Why is it important to become an internal controller?
People with internal control usually have higher self-confidence and satisfaction with their lives, as they consciously shape their destiny. They are able to realistically evaluate their own abilities and limits, so they are more likely to achieve their goals. And the power of independent decisions strengthens them in their ability to make positive changes in their lives.
How can you become an internal controller?
Stand behind your decisions
People with internal control take responsibility for their decisions. If you feel that your decisions are being influenced by others, try to decide for yourself on the issues that are important to you. Notice how good you feel when you are in control of your own life, and remember that your decisions will always have consequences – good or bad. Feel free to take them on!
Assess your own strengths
Recognize and evaluate your own abilities and strengths. Don’t compare yourself to others, focus on improving yourself. Being satisfied with yourself increases self-confidence and helps you make your own decisions.
Learn from your mistakes
We all make mistakes and that’s natural. The point is to learn from our mistakes and not repeat them. If you did something wrong, don’t blame others or the circumstances. Rather, think about what you can do differently in the future to achieve a better result.
Plan your goals
An independent goal contributes greatly to becoming an internal controller. Set realistic goals for yourself and create your own plan to help you achieve them. Celebrate even the smaller successes and remember that the road to the goal is sometimes winding and difficult, but perseverance pays off.
Practice self-restraint and self-reflection
People with internal control are able to resist temptation and know when to compromise. Practicing self-reflection is also important: examine your thoughts, feelings and actions to better understand yourself and improve.
Learning an attitude of internal control will help you lead a happier, more balanced life in the long run. In this process, increasing decision-making, independence and self-confidence is key. Be patient with yourself and remember: change doesn’t happen overnight, but commitment and persistence will eventually bring the expected results.
